Nichiren Daishonin founded this Buddhism on April 28, 1253, which is the beginning of the history of Nichiren Shoshu.

Shakyamuni Buddha, known as Gautama Siddhartha, predicted in the Lotus Sutra that the impure and vicious era of the Latter Days of the Law would come some 2,000 years after (his) Shakyamuni’s death, and the votary of Lotus Sutra would appear on earth to save people.

Nichiren Daishonin made his advent exactly as the Lotus Sutra predicted.  In spite of two exiles and countless persecutions, the Daishonin propagated Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo to save all people.  Finally on October 12, 1279, the Daishonin transcribed the Dai Gohonzon of the High Sanctuary as the ultimate object of worship.  This was the true purpose of his advent.

On his deathbed, Nichiren Daishonin appointed Nikko Shonin as his successor and endowed him with all his teachings including the Dai-Gohonzon of the High Sanctuary.  This is called the Transmission of the True Heritage.

The Head Temple Taisekiji was founded on October 12, 1290 by the second High Priest Nikko Shonin, who received the Lifeblood of the True Heritage.  This was based on Nichiren Daishonin’s will, as he stated:

“The High Sanctuary of True Buddhism should be established at the foot of Mount Fuji”.

Nichiren Shoshu, centered at the head temple, has maintained the orthodoxy of Nichiren Daishonin’s teachings by passing them down to the successive High Priests from Nikko Shonin to the current High Priest Nichinyo Shonin.

Therefore, Nichiren Shoshu is the only religious group that brings forth happiness and peace to all the people of the world.  And the Hokkeko is a group of believers who assiduously practice this teaching.
