Shakubuku is to refute erroneous religious thinking which is the cause of unhappiness and to teach the correct religion which brings about a wonderful life and true happiness.

Shakubuku is something that you can do even if you are not familiar with difficult Buddhist teachings.  To show your daily practice in faith and to talk about the great power of the Gohonzon and your experience are part of Shakubuku practice.

Everyone can do Shakubuku if the person acts with deep compassion and sincerity.

Nichiren Daishonin said that the several sufferings we encounter in our lives are the results of our sins accumulated in our past lifetime.   The most cardinal sin among them is to slander the True Law.  You can erase this great offence and attain Buddhahood only by practicing Shakubuku.

Nichiren Daishonin said in his Gosho,

“To seek enlightenment without repudiating slander is as futile as trying to find water in the midst of fire or fire in the midst of water”.

Therefore, to practice Shakubuku is one of the important Buddhist practices for attaining Buddhahood as well as for saving people who are suffering.

Our continuous effort for Shakubuku will lead to the realization of Kosenrufu, which Nichiren Daishonin bequeathed to us.  Kosenrufu means to purify the society and establish peace and happiness for the society and us.

Nichiren Daishonin always wished for people’s true happiness and gave us many profound teachings in his Gosho,

“Therefore, those who become Nichiren’s disciples and followers should realize the profound karmic relationship they share with him and spread the Lotus Sutra in the same spirit”.

We, as disciples of Nichiren Daishonin, must heed his words and do Shakubuku.  By doing so, you will accumulate your own benefits.

What is Shakubuku?
